Ural State University (URGU) named after M. Gorkiy

In October 1920, Vladimir Lenin signed an edict founding the Ural State University. It was the first and most important step in giving birth and developing science in the Ural Region.

The University was later named after Maxim Gorkiy, a famous Russian-Soviet writer.

Today the University is second largest in Ekaterinburg after the Technical University UGTU-UPI.

It features 11 regular department plus 2 departments for international students. The university's library boasts over 1,3 million volumes and is second largest in the Ural after the Library named after V.Belinskiy ("Belinka").

The warm university is a true temple of science for about 7,000 students.

The University is situated across the street from the Opera House.
